Taylor Swift took to the Victoria's Secret show catwalk in a Union Jack dress reminiscent of the iconic dress worn by Geri Halliwell to perform at the 1997 BRITs
Geri Halliwell's Union Jack dress is up there with Marilyn Monroe's white 'Seven Year Itch' halter neck and Diana, Princess of Wales's Emanuel wedding dress when it comes to iconic clothing, so it's no surprise Taylor Swift fancied channelling a little of the Spice Girl magic at last night's Victoria's Secret show. But while the aforementioned number worn by Halliwell at the 1997 BRIT Awards owed its impact to a tea towel - more on that later - Swift's made clearly been custom-made especially for the 'Brit Invasion' section of the show. The paint-daubed gown featured one sleeve and long, flowing train and was accessorised with a tiny top hat and open-toed Union Jack heels.
Halliwell's infamous dress was actually a Gucci LBD customised by the Spice Girl's sister. "I got sent this black Gucci dress and I thought, 'What am I going to wear? That's a bit boring," Halliwell has previously said of the occasion. "And then I thought, 'Oh, my God.' I just got a light bulb and I thought, 'Brits - let's celebrate being British! And so literally I got my sister to stitch it; she stitched it onto the black Gucci dress. It's a tea towel, that's what it is!"
The 23-year-old Grammy Award-winner took to the glittering runway in to perform a number of songs as the models made showed of their elaborate costumes and angel wings. Fall Out Boy, indie band A Great Big World and girl group Neon Jungle also sang at the show, which took place in New York's Lexington Avenue Armoury.
